How was it that my Studies Skills Teacher took a special interest on me?

travelplus asked:
I was in Resource in High School and had this great studies skills teacher who really helped me a lot. This teacher went out of her way to make my experience good. It seemed like she did not take interest in the other students. She met my mother when she had a student years ago in my mom’s class. Did this have something to do with it? Also since we shared a lot in common did this help as well?

How can I become better friends with my teacher?
Filed Under Teaching | Comments Off
Emily asked:
I know a lot of you will probably start going on about how there is a certain line between the relationship and everything but the word is friend. I’m sure as hell not going to get intimate or anything. My teacher is really nice and is easy to have a conversation with, sometimes better than I can with my friends. All I want to know is how I can become better friends, for him to like me better as a person. Any answers will be very much appreciated! Thankyou x.

When Does One Become A Yoga Teacher?
Filed Under Tutoring | Comments Off
anonymous asked:
When you teach a friend, co-worker, or family member, one Yoga technique, you have taken the first step toward becoming a Yoga teacher. This is the traditional way Yoga was initially taught before Hatha Yoga classes became such a “magnet” to the public. Large Yoga classes are not a bad thing, but it is easy to forget the way Yoga was taught for centuries.
Now, let’s fast forward into the 21st century. Today, we have access to instant information. You can learn Yoga from television, the Internet, books, DVD’s, MP3’s, CD’s and e-Books. It would seem anyone who wants to become a Yoga teacher has all the tools, at hand, to pursue his or her dream of teaching Yoga.
Should you read Yoga books to become a Yoga teacher? Yes, you will have to read and much more. Yoga books, DVD’s, and CD’s set a foundation of Yoga teaching knowledge, but there is much more to this, in order to become a Yoga teacher.
It is daily experience, gained through teaching Yoga students, which causes a Yoga teacher to further evolve beyond the initial teacher certification process. Practical knowledge and experience becomes a “treasure chest” for any Yoga teacher.
Teaching Yoga is a journey. If Yoga teachers sit still, without expanding their knowledge, they will become stagnant. Yoga books are great references, but Yoga teachers are works in progress. In fact, Yoga is a work in progress. Yoga changes as teachers make new and innovative discoveries along the way.
Hopefully, innovative Yoga teachers will record their discoveries for future generations. None of us has a life long enough to learn all that has been written over 5,000 years, but we learn everything that will help our students live a better quality life and more. Every student ailment is researched again and again.
Yoga teachers may eventually run into a situation where the right Yoga book is not available, or perhaps it was never written. Always remember that Yoga books are very valuable, but they are learning tools for the beginning of the journey, and good references, to come back to, when you put Yogic principles into practice.
So, when do you know if you are ready to become a Yoga teacher? If you have been practicing Yoga for years, reading Yoga information, and showing your friends Yoga techniques, you have already taken the first step.
There is no promise that the journey to become a Yoga teacher will be easy, but it is rewarding. Yoga has much history behind it, but many new chapters are being written at this moment, and many more will be written in the future. The public is always in need of competent and innovative Yoga teachers.

What to Look for When Hiring a Yoga Teacher (Part 1)
Filed Under Tutoring | Comments Off
Paul M. Jerard Jr. asked:
How can you tell which Yoga teacher is the best fit for your health club, ashram, spa, or wellness studio? Does it depend on a particular diploma, style of Yoga, or does it depend on who their Guru was? Let’s go over a bit of credential history and a checklist for finding the ideal Yoga teacher.
Lately, there has been a scramble amongst Yoga teachers to gain higher credentials. This is understandable because Yoga became much more of a mainstream pursuit. As Yoga became more and more popular, many experienced Yoga teachers found themselves “out of the loop.”
Some Yoga teachers, with decades of Yoga teaching experience, had no credentials, diploma, or “paper trail.” The “paper chase” was on, and when it came to credentials, a new “playing field” had been created.
With all the liability suits out there, credentials have become very important, even in Yoga. Credentials make liability insurance much easier for Yoga studios to get. Therefore, all Yoga teachers have to jump through the new “flaming hoops.”
What Guru or Yoga Master trains the best teachers? Competence has little to do with who a Yoga teacher’s Guru - is or was. The Guru is not teaching this Yoga teacher’s class. The real question is: How will this Yoga teacher perform within your facility?
Have you ever met a graduate from an “elite” college who was an under achiever? Of course, and we have all seen over achievers from colleges, which are not as prestigious. You might also want to think about the many over achievers who never went to college.
Is there a particular style that trains Yoga teachers the best? Not really, most Yoga teacher training programs, of all styles, produce competent Yoga teachers. To credit one particular style, would take away the credibility of the rest. However, if, for example, you are looking to establish a Yoga class that is vigorous, you might seek out teachers from particularly vigorous Yoga styles.
Most Yoga teachers do a very good job of teaching, but students of any subject will always think more fondly of a particular teacher. This is human nature to make comparisons, but there are much larger issues when it comes to teaching skills and making your best selection.
The real issues, and skills, that count when hiring a Yoga teacher, are safety, compassion, communication, assisting, alignment, listening, modifications, ethics and continuing education.

How do I convince a teacher to allow me to use a PDA in school?
Filed Under Primary & Secondary Education | Comments Off
billybobmanny asked:
My school allows us to use PDAs to keep track of homework, events, etc. But the catch is we have to convince our homeroom teacher that we can use it responsibly (no taking pictures, taking recordings of teachers for jokes, etc.) What should I include in my argument? (1-2 paragraphs required)
They ALLOW US to do this. I have had permission for the past two years. Should I include that in my E-Mail?
