Teacher appreciation week 2009 this year will occur in May and it will be celebrated by schools around the USA. This festival started in the 1980s and it is celebrated in many countries around the world. This festival will last for approximately a week which is filled with fun activities for everyone. Teacher appreciation is an enjoyable week for both students and teachers and is a welcome break from the regular school daily routine. The week is filled with events to be enjoyed by everyone in the school. Many schools choose to go on school outings, organise sports events or recitals. Teachers can work along side the students for more fun and enjoyment. It would be a great chance to not have the “teacher status” and fun can be had with the students.

This event is celebrated differently in every country but teacher appreciation week this year could be the year to be creative.

Whilst most teachers will enjoy receiving chocolates or flowers, some may appreciate gifts with a more imaginative aspect. In some countries students organise shows and plays in honour of their favourite teachers and some create a gift for their teachers. This could be a scrapbook which demonstrates why they appreciate that particular teacher.

Usually this creative idea will happen on teacher appreciation day which is a very memorable day for all. Students are expanding their ideas and finding out their creative potential. Gift ideas like apples and flowers are becoming a thing of the past and now students are coming up with other ideas. Examples are theatre tickets or homemade teaching equipment for their favourite teachers. Students want to give their teachers something with a more personal touch rather than resort to tradition.

Teacher appreciation day 2009 is a great opportunity for teachers around the world to know that they are appreciated. Teaching is a career where motivation and confidence are essential and this is what this week is all about. One week long event to say thank you to our teachers and to show how much their help is appreciated.
