How was it that my Studies Skills Teacher took a special interest on me?

I was in Resource in High School and had this great studies skills teacher who really helped me a lot. This teacher went out of her way to make my experience good. It seemed like she did not take interest in the other students. She met my mother when she had a student years ago in my mom’s class. Did this have something to do with it? Also since we shared a lot in common did this help as well?
